Coupling experience with youth was popular in the 2-up time trial run by Cuddon Cycling Marlborough on Saturday in the 9th race of the winter / spring series. The 40km event for the Geddes Memorial Cups was run up the Wairau Valley, while the shorter 20km race was on the Waihopai Valley road.
Cuddon Marlborough Cycling winter/spring series race 8 was held on the roads of Lower Wairau last Saturday. Due to many riders racing out of the district, including competing the Elite Series round in Nelson, a basic graded event was run with a combined A and B grade completing 43km and a combined C and D grade completing 36km.
17 riders from the Cuddon Cycling Marlborough club made the trip to Nelson last Saturday to compete in the first round of the annual interclub road race. Racing in the interclub series is between the Marlborough club and the two Nelson clubs, the Tasman Wheelers and the Nelson cycling Club. Trophies for the 2 round interclub are the H G Hunter Memorial Shield for the open category, and the Picton Shield for the junior under-17 category.
The Van Antwerpen Trophies for handicap and fastest time were on offer for the 15th time in the longer race. The 30km race had also two long running trophies up for grabs: the Amtman (handicap) and Sincock (fastest time), these however are only for the Junior Under-17 riders in this race.
Cuddon Cycling Marlborough held their 6th race of the winter / spring series this weekend on the Hawkesbury Circuit near Renwick. A good turnout saw over 30 riders compete in the 4 grades. Racing was in a 2-stage format with all grades doing a 7.5km individual time-trial around the lower circuit. Following this road races were held over one or more laps of the complete circuit, with the finish for all grades on the top of the Barracks Rd hill-climb.
