The fifth round of the BikeFit Marlborough Summer Road Series took place on Tuesday evening with the time trial event on the New Renwick Road course at Fairhall. Conditions were near to perfect for time trialling and this was reflected in yet another evening of records being broken. First up was Martin Fletcher who broke his own record in his age category by 26 seconds in recording 2 a very slick 2m02secs for the 15.2km distance and taking 5th fastest time of the night. Georgia Catterick not only finished 9th fastest in the field but broke her own record too by a whopping 44 seconds to record 22m53sec.
It was a night for the Cattericks – Georgia’s brother Brodie in the A grade showed some real class in taking fastest time for the night in 20m27secs, managing to break masters rider Ray Dunstan’s stranglehold on the time trial series. Martin Fletcher’s time took 1st place in the B grade. Susan van der Pol held off Sanne Poulsen to take C grade fastest time. Shaun Peoples again showed good speed on the bike to go fastest D grade rider ahead of junior rider Katie Batt.
Three teams of two riders each took up the option of time trialling in what is known as the 2-up race. This option is great for new riders to be able to learn from an experienced partner and also has seen more accomplished riders utilising the option for some interval/speed work training.
