Veteran time trial specialist Ray Dunstan and U19 Junior Ethan Batt combined well in the 2-up time-trial this Tuesday and distanced the rest of the field by 1min 20 sec.
The Bikefit Summer Night Series races held by Cuddon Cycling Marlborough concluded with a 16km 2-up time-trial over the familiar New Renwick Road course. Hot summer weather conditions saw 15 couples compete in the popular event, a tailwind helped on the way out, but the 2nd half with the headwind proved harder, and this is where the difference could be made.
Dunstan and Batt recorded a quick 19m59s time, they were followed by 2 other veteran / junior combinations, Gerard and son Niels van Antwerpen finished second on 21:19, while Tony and daughter Georgia Catterick got third on 21:27.
Other strong teams were hot on their heels, Craig Harper / Sean O’Neill only 5sec behind on 21:32, and Brent Akcroyd / Dylan Hodson another 6sec on 21:38.
In the overall results for the time-trials over the series, Ray Dunstan got 1st in the A-grade with 2 wins out of 4 races, Brent Ackroyd was 2nd followed by Ethan Batt. The B-grade was won by Martin Fletcher, Dylan Hodson 2nd and Callum Caughey 3rd. Marie Peart took out the C-grade, followed by Sam Morgan and Sophie Batt.
