In continuation of the Summer Nite series of races held over the last few months, Cuddon Cycling Marlborough, with support from Cycle World, is organising a series of time trials to assist riders to prepare for the club Nationals to be held in the third week of April in Alexandra. The races are using the familiar 16km course on New Renwick Road. As well as an excellent opportunity for the more experienced riders to sharpen their skills it also allows beginners a good starting point in racing timetrials.
The 1st race, held Wednesday February 10th in almost perfect warm summer weather conditions, resulted in some great rides, with a number of records being broken along the way.
Ethan Batt set a new Junior Under-19 best time of 19m38sec, breaking the long standing time of 20m39s of Scott Allen by more than a minute, and was only 4 seconds off equaling the course record held by Robin Reid. Susan van der Pol bettered Rhonda Murphy’s time of 23m41s in the womens 35-44 age group by riding a 22m46s
Ray Dunstan recorded the 2nd best time of the night with 20m45s, followed by Josh Scott 21m18s. Other highlights of the night were Dylan Hodson beating his personal best by nearly a minute, Marie Peart also setting a PB, and new club members, father and son David & Steven Simpson having a great battle with each other for family bragging rights.
