Dunstan Dazzles

Masters rider Ray Dunstan started off the season with a fine win in Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s ‘Bike HQ Summernite Series’ from Wither Hills Winery on Wednesday evening.

The first time trial in the series on the New Renwick Road 16km course tested all riders in the very windy conditions. Dunstan’s early season form was impressive with speeds of over 70kph on the return journey to be only 11 seconds outside his Masters 45-54 record of 21m 22s set in December last year. Conway Taylor recorded a solid 22m 16s with Paul Johnson (24m 20s) in third place. Ethan Roach (25m 08s) was the first of the junior under 17 grade riders with Will Hart (30m 38s) and Elodie Jacoby (31m 01s) taking the minor placings respectively.
The open sealed handicap section went to Jacoby by a good margin of 1m 05s to Daniel Cresswell and another 6 seconds to Brent Ackroyd.
