Van Antwerpen Takes Double Again

Gerard van Antwerpen took his second consecutive first place and fastest time in Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s final event of the Winter season at Fairhall hall on Saturday afternoon.
The open grade 40km handicap event was ridden in cold and wet conditions twice over the Benmorven, Ridge Resort, Godfreys Road course. As the field closed up all the action happened in the final lap. The scratch pair of Lee Griggs and van Antwerpen went through the middle markers and were in pursuit of the 17 minute front markers Denis Church and Joe Blakiston. The leading pair were caught just 1.5km from home with van Antwerpen taking line honours in the sprint from Griggs. Blakiston headed in Church, 27 seconds later, to take third place.
