Harvey Holds On For Strong Win

Henry Harvey produced a strong ride in the last few kilometres to take victory in Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s handicap event at Fairhall last Saturday afternoon.
The 45km open grade event covered two laps of a course including the Benmorven circuit, Ridge Resort climbs, New Renwick Road and Godfreys Road. At the end of the first lap the 6 minute markers had reduced to four with Harvey, Marty Bruce, Will Hart, and Graham Henderson having added Wayne Palatchie (off 13m) to their group. Scratch markers Jeremy McKenzie and Callum Saunders had also pulled in the 3 minute break markers at this point. The climb on the Ridge in the final lap saw Harvey go clear of Bruce and Hart, with McKenzie and Saunderscatching this pair with approximately 5km to go. Harvey fought on valiantly to take a well deserved line honours by 21 seconds to McKenzie and Saunders who took the minor placings and fastest times respectively.
