Crampton In Top Form

Junior under 19 riders Peter Crampton and Callum Saunders relished the hilltop finish to take the top placings respectively at Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s handicap event at Fairhall on Saturday afternoon.
The open grade 43km handicap event started at Fairhall hall and covered two laps of the Ridge Resort, Godfreys Road, Benmorven circuit. The strong scratch group scorched through the field to hit the front with approximately 12 kilometres to go. With the pace high only Mike Murphy and Bruce Heron (Nelson) from the 2m 30s break group managed to stay with them. The sprint to the line at the Ridge top saw Crampton hold off Saunders with co-marker Gerard van Antwerpen 7 seconds back in third place followed by Jeremy McKenzie and Josh Scott a further 7 seconds back.
The junior under 17 grade 18km new riders event covered two laps of the Benmorven circuit. Callum Caughey headed off Christopher Grammer for line honours with Bryce Blackmore recording third place.
