Dagmar van Antwerpen Sprints Clear For Win

Dagmar van Antwerpen showed her sprinting ability to ride in for a fine win in Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s junior under 17 event at Fairhall on Saturday afternoon.
The 18km junior handicap event started from Wither Hills Winery covering two laps of the Benmorven circuit. After the first lap of Benmorven Bryce Blackmore (off 4m 30s) and Van antwerpen had pulled in the 6 minute frontmarkers and were being closely tracked by the 3m 30s group. On the final lap drag up Paynters Road, Hugh Trollope (off 3m 30s), Jack Ritchie (off 3m 30s), Blackmore and Van Antwerpen teamed up well to forge ahead. A strong finish in the sprint to the line saw Van Antwerpen take line honours well clear of Ritchie, Blackmore and Trollope respectively. Thomas Westend (off scratch) and Ethan Brydon (off 1m) both had strong rides to break from their respective co-markers for first and second place on time.
Meanwhile, on Saturday afternoon the junior field will compete at Lower Wairau on the Dillons Point Road, Swamp Road, Rowberrys Road circuit. Riders will ride in a 7km time trial, followed by a 7km team event. All riders are to assemble at the corner of Dillons Point Road and Rowberrys Road at 1pm for a 1.30pm start.
