The club runs a development programme that is mainly aimed at school aged riders, but older riders regularly attend as well and all are welcome. The club has recently contracted a professional coach to supply resources and craft the training sessions which are then delivered by senior club members.
During the track season we train at Athletic Park — end of Brewer Street on Fridays at 5:30pm. After a warm up we run through some training activities which are mainly on the bike. We aim to finish by 7:00pm.
The club has track bikes that are available for use, if you have a bike with clip on pedals then we can fit them to track bike quickly so you can use them if you wish.
During the road season we continue to meet at Athletic park but swap to Monday afternoons at 4:00pm. In addition to cycling workouts we also do some stretching and core exercises. This training is done on road bikes and builds towards the school cycling events during terms two and three.
Summer Track Racing is ON!
Looking for a fun, fast, and friendly way to spend your Monday nights this summer? Come and give track cycling a go! Whether you're a seasoned racer or have never even sat on a track bike before, our Monday night racing is the perfect opportunity to get out, get active, and experience the thrill of the velodrome.
It's achievable, it's fun, and we'd love to see you there.
What to Expect on a Monday Night
🏁 The Schedule
Warm-up Starts: 5:30 PM
Racing Starts: 6:00 PM
Duration: Racing typically runs for about 90 minutes.
We build the intensity throughout the evening, starting with shorter, faster races and finishing up with a longer feature race. We run a mix of scratch racing (everyone starts together) and handicap races (where slower riders get a head start) to keep things exciting.
🚴 Racing Grades
We typically split riders into 2–3 grades based on ability. This means you'll be racing against others of a similar level, ensuring safe, competitive, and enjoyable racing for everyone!
Try Track Cycling – No Bike? No Problem!
One of the best things about our club night is how easy we make it to get started.
Club Track Bikes: We have a fleet of around 30 track bikes of various sizes available for you to use!
Set-up Time: Arrive a little early! It usually takes about 15 minutes to find the right size bike and get it set up safely for you.
What You Need to Bring
A Helmet (This is mandatory for racing!)
Covered-in Shoes (For safety and to help you grip the pedals.)
Bringing Your Own Gear? If you have your own cycling shoes and clip-in pedals, bring them down! We can usually fit your pedals to one of our track bikes. Of course, if you have your own track bike, you are welcome to race on that too!
New for This Year: Road Bike Racing!
We are excited to offer a new opportunity for riders who only have a road bike!
This year, we will host separate races exclusively for road bikes. This is a great, low-pressure way to try out racing on the track surface.
Please note: For safety reasons, races will be split—we cannot mix track bikes and road bikes in the same race.
The Weather Factor
Track racing is an outdoor sport, and we need a dry surface to race safely.
Cancellations: If the weather is wet or unsuitable for racing, we will post any cancellation notice on our club Facebook page by 4:00 PM at the latest. Please check there before heading down if the weather looks doubtful!
We can't wait to see you on the track this summer! Come along and discover your new favourite way to get your adrenaline fix.
Ready to race? Just show up! We'll get you sorted.
