White Road Ride
Gravel Event
Gravel Event
The White Road Ride is a fun event designed to give riders of all abilities the opportunity to compete in a mass event and the satisfaction of setting and achieving their individual goals.
The Start and Finish for all events is on Reserve Road about 500 m south of Yealands winery.
One lap of the White Road (the small lap) is 8 km. The 8 km, 16 km and 24 km events are multiples of the small lap. The surface of the road is fine limestone gravel which is suitable for all types of bike.
NOTE: You can click on the map below to take you to VeloViewer where you can examine the course in more detail.
The terrain is undulating but there are steep downhills at the 3 km and 4 km points of the lap and a steep climb at 3.4 km. At Twin Lakes (4.7 km) there is a sharp and deceptive left and bend. Slow down at this corner. The finish of the lap is along Seaview Road and Reserve Road. These are open, public roads. Riders must obey normal road rules. Check for traffic at the turn onto Seaview Road at 7.2 km.
The 40 km event (actually 41.7 km) is two long laps and one short lap. The long lap is a figure 8 configuration with a clockwise loop to Cable Station Road and completed with an anticlockwise loop of the White Road. There is a steep downhill from 2 km to the 3 km point of the lap and a steady climb between the 9 and 10 km points. The course joins Cable Station Road at the 4 km point and has a right turn onto Reserve Road at 6 km. Both these roads are open public roads. Riders must keep left and obey normal road rules. The deceptive bend at Twin Lakes is at 13.7 km of the lap. Slow down at this corner. Check for traffic at the turn onto Seaview Road at 16 km.
Parking areas will be signposted. Access is through Yealand’s vineyard HQ. Turn right off Seaview Road 400 m before the winery. Please do not drive onto Reserve Road. Do not park on Seaview Road, Reserve Road or at the winery.
